What is Tartan Day & when is it?[ Tartan Day is commemorated all over the world but where better to celebrate such a momentous occasion than in Scotland? Come and join in the Tartan Day Scotland celebrations! The celebrations marking Tartan Day 2012 begin on Saturday 31 March to Sunday 8 April, when a host of special events throughout the country marked the start of over a week of festivities. Nine days of gala dinners, thought-provoking debates, traditional and not-so-traditional music, and world class sporting events highlight the significance of Tartan Day, and the immense contribution Scotland has made to the world. In particular, it celebrates April 6 1320, when the Declaration of Arbroath was signed within the hallowed walls of the town's magnificent red sandstone abbey. At the beginning of April each year a week-long programme of events commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath on the 6th April 1320 at Arbroath Abbey. The 2012 Programme of Events will be published in January 2012. ] www.tartandayscotland.com/home/home.aspAyrshire Tartan[The tartan for anyone who claims Ayrshire descent.
