A wasted opportunity. The Tour of Britain is going to be on the TV again, with the best cyclists in the world competing, a chance to show the world our fantastic scenery, but who knows about it? A chance for part of Burns Corridor to make millions. Will cyclists be passing Drumlanrig Castle; where the local blacksmith, a Mr MacMillan, invented the true bicycle 170 years ago this year? Will East Ayrshire Council be sponsoring the Tour? The route for the sixth edition of The Tour of Britain was unveiled at Covent Garden’s London Transport Museum. The 2009 Tour will visit some old favourite venues of the race like London and Dumfries and Galloway, while others like York and Bideford will be new to The Tour. The map on the site ( www.tourofbritain.co.uk/%5Fns%5Frace/ ) doesn't show the D&G route very well at all, so it may be passing your door, who knows. In four years time it will be the 170th anniversary of the bike ride MacMillan took from Drumlanrig to Glasgow. Also the first bicycle accident in the world. Any chance of having the TOUR OF BRITAIN following his (unpneumatic) tyre tracks? Surely this gives organisers enough time?
