If you get a chance to look at Armstrong's map of Ayrshire (18th century) you'll see that the Nith and the Ayr were linked at one time by burns flowing from one of New Cumnock's lochs: One burn flowing north, the other south. The original Burns Corridor. At the moment you can walk the River Ayr Way from Source to Sea: GlenBuck in East Ayrshire to the Firth of Clyde at Ayr, South Ayrshire. In time we will have a River Nith Way, from Enoch Hill, East Ayrshire, south to Dumfries and the Solway Firth. If we join these paths up by following the burns shown on Armstrong's map we will able to walk the Original Burns Corridor.
